It happens.. my previous blog session timed out, so here's an abbreviated version of what I was going to post:
Hybrid cars source!
Hybrid Cars
Check out the top three sedans, half the mileage of gasoline cars and going for about 30,000$ CAD, average power is about 130HP.
Hydrogen cars are being market tested, the most interesting points with hydrogen fueling is where to fuel? In the entire US there are around 50 liquid hydrogen fueling stations. Honda's solution is a Home Energy Station (HES) fuel from home, plus heat and power the home too!
Home Energy System
If going the traditional gasoline powered route, try to get a just-enough-power engine and check the fuel economy on the vechile. Most people only require a V4-cylinder engine for the city, fuel economy ratings from V4 to V6 engine is like 50% more.
But just on fuel economy, we are looking at two cars, same size engine and cabin space, about 2000$ difference in pricing, but the mileage is a difference of 4L/100KM. Big difference?
example:
average travel in a year is 15,000KM, say gas prices are about 1.30/L.
9L/100KM vs 13L/100KM
1,350L/year vs 1,950L/year
$1,755/year vs $2,535/year
difference of $780/year
Fuel economy ratings are just as important as the sticker price when it comes to savings.

( 2.9 / 504 )when i started this site i was very gungho, thought i had the solution for the earth. but i received a lot of resistance, funny that, eh?
for those i bantered with, i'd like to say sorry for being so head-strong. i think it was because of failings in my life at the moment that made me more of a sensationalistic prick with all the answers.
i'm now wondering how real the original intent of this activism really was... if i wasn't going to let anyone poke fun at it, who killed the sarcasm that once began it? rhetorical question.
i have a couple web articles i've been saving for the next post, but i'll have to wait to get on my home computer to do so.
it's been a long bitter winter in my life, time for some sunshine.
take care,
Jason.

( 2.9 / 401 )Terraform later..
MOON COLONIZE NOW!!

If the long-term goal is to explore our solar system, the mid-term goal is terraforming the moon, the short-term goal has to be establishing a habitat for colonization on the moon. The original designs for moon buildings would have to be modular (like LEGO pieces), self-powered, highly insulated, fully pressurized with oxygen rich atmosphere, and easy to jimmy up with other modules.
Modular and Hookups
Each building module should have (at least) two contact points to hookup with other modules. The important thing is not to get stuck with a design that doesn't scale. Modules would probably scale horizontally across the ground, but shouldn't be limited to being built vertically. Each module will have to be securely fastened to the lunar surface. But it is important not to clump too many modules together. This is a high-risk development, if there is an explosion or impact from space debris (remember, no atmosphere), a module and all it's connecting modules share the same risk. It would be wise to have sets of modules separated by long tunnels or passageways that can be cut off in case of emergency and cut the losses.
Power
If the zero-point generator mentioned in the previous blog (http://www.terraformthemoon.com/blog/index.php?entry=entry080523-124455) successfully tests on Earth, it would be a huge benefit to fitting each module with one of these units, where solar technology can be fitted as a backup. Here's an article on it, I think they are afraid that the powers that be would want to shut them down. And rightfully so, free energy upsets a lot of fat cats.

Oxygen

Oxygen has two primary functions, breathe and burn. An oxygen rich atmosphere will reduce the odds of hypoxia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypoxia_(medical)) that is similarly experienced by mountain climbers at high altitudes. Rockets refueling on the moon require oxygen to combust the fuel that provide projection. So it's important that oxygen is sourced, mined, extracted and stored on the moon, oxygen self-sufficient. The process has been thought out, perhaps developing an extractor and sending a test would be a next step:

Thinking for yourself..
SEE SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!
Last weekend kicked off my summer in Toronto with several photo sets from a random mash up of events. Kicked off with a Pillow Fight down at City Hall.
Pppppppppppfffft... FEATHERS!!
